The Belk Cottage was built for girls from nine to twelve years of age in 1957 by Mrs. William H. Belk of Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Belk was a North Carolina DAR and a personal friend to Dr. Mary Martin Sloop, also a North Carolina DAR. The Belk Family has contributed to the upkeep of the Belk Cottage throughout the years and today, the cottage still serves children and is home to boys between the ages of 8 and 13. Mrs. Belk's' grandson, McKay Belk, carries on his grandmother's love through his service on Crossnore's
Board of Trustees.
