Effective August 5, 2005, The Crossnore School received expanded licensure from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to implement its Adoption Placement Program.
The program was designed specifically to address the needs both of children whose parental rights have been terminated and potentially adoptive parents. The program's mission is to make the adoption process more efficient, effective and ultimately successful; its vision is to lead the state in connecting real children to real families.
The license comes at a time of great growth and progress at Crossnore. Not only are new services such as the Adoption Placement Program being developed, the places to house them are as well. In fact, the original Sloop Memorial Hospital, built by the Sloops in 1928, is currently being renovated. It will be renamed the Edwin Guy Guesthouse, and among its
many purposes, it will eventually house administrative offices for the Adoption Placement Program as well as guest and visiting rooms for potentially adoptive families engaged in the adoption process.
